5 Ways to 'Follow the Flow' in your Business and Still Create Consistent Income

If you’re wondering how all of these women online are making money with ease, but you’re completely stressed out and the word ease is looking like a magical unicorn, this post is for you.

Anyone who knows me would say that ‘control’ is my middle name. I’m a planner, and I like to know what to expect when it comes to pretty much everything. I’m also a serial list maker. Flow is not something that ever came easily to me. I would always hear things like ‘follow the flow’ and ‘listen to your body,’ but to be totally honest I always rolled my eyes at these. I’d think, “Yeah, that’s just not me. The only way to have success is to be very organized; plan, plan, plan, and plan some more, and make lists.” I truly thought that following the flow was for free spirits that didn’t crave a lot of money.

So what changed my mind?

Going from 500K to 1 million in 6 months.

In all honesty, I feel like the flow found me.

Life happened, and it hit hard.

I was tired, I was burnt out, and I wasn’t sure what my purpose was anymore. I had amazing clients, and I was making more money than people could dream of, but I wasn’t happy. I was just tapped out. Imposter syndrome was setting in, which I hadn’t dealt with since the beginning of my business. So in my head, I just knew that quitting might be what I needed to do.

I came, I saw, I conquered, now peace out.

Did I want to? No! But, girl, I was T.I.R.E.D.

So, I just started working when I felt like working.

And this is when the magic inside me had SPACE to come out. I realized that I was constantly trying to control my energy and how much space I was allowed to take up. On days I didn’t want to work, I still forced myself to work. On days that my energy was so low but I had content to create or website to build with Colla Rose Creation, I would just force myself.

Now don’t get me wrong, you can’t just not work. You won’t make money that way. But what you can do is leverage your energy.

For example, I’ve always been a strict “no work on the weekends’ and ‘i leave the office at 5 no matter what’ kinda girl.

But here I am writing this at 8:00 PM on a Saturday night while my husband is playing his video game, and the fur babies are sleeping at my feet… because I felt the flow. I felt like I needed to get this message out.

I’ve tried to write this post weeks before now, but I would just stare at a blank screen and nothing would come. As you can see now, it’s flowing.

Here are 5 things that I personally do and thousands of my clients do to follow their flow and still create consistent income:

1. Stop forcing content

I’ve always said that consistency is currency -- if you wanted to be successful at anything I believed that consistency needed to be at the core of everything you did. BUT, if you’re consistently putting out crap, it’s not helping anyone (sorry, not sorry). Every day, I talk to so many women who are overwhelmed with coming up with content for social media, and then when they do put out content, it flops and does nothing. So often, they are focusing more on the quantity of content versus the quality. Quantity content USUALLY comes from forcing yourself to create the content when your energy is low, you're tired, the kids just started school, etc. and let’s be real, it’s not your best work but it will ‘do’. I promise that when you focus on QUALITY content 3 times a week, you will have more success then if you create QUANTITIES of content 7 days a week. It can feel scary, but networking with quality content will get you more money in your business than quantities of content and no connections (that’s a post for another day!).

2. Stop relying on social media

With all of that being said about not forcing content, that leads me into the most important thing. Don’t put all of your eggs in one basket. You should not be relying on social media to create all your business income. Remember last year when Facebook was down for a day and everyone was freaking out? Well if you missed that, everyone was losing their marbles thinking they lost all of their old content and accounts. What were we doing over here at CWHQ? Chilling, not worried at all, because 70% of our leads DO NOT come from social media. If you have downloaded my 5 ways to grow without social media you can click here to grab that. This guide goes deeper into ways to establish growth without relying on good ole Mark Zuckerberg.

3. Follow Aunt Flow

Now hear me out, this sounds crazy, I know! I thought the exact same thing until I started seeing not only myself but my clients having real breakthroughs by focusing on their menstrual cycles. Now, if you don’t have a menstrual cycle or they are crazy irregular, this section may not be for you because periods are definitely NOT in my expertise, but if you seem to have a regular cycle then stick with me. The week BEFORE your period is the best time to plan for content creation. Your emotions are heightened and you’re more in tune with yourself. The week of your period is yourself care week. Keep your books open and your work light. Give yourself space to breathe and simply be. This allows your body to fully shed and rest. Coming off of your period, you’ll feel like magic and stardust, so this is when you launch!

For example, let’s say you’ve got a launch coming up. The week before your period, write out content. The week of your period, have content planned and ready to go so all you have to do is engage with and talk to people. Then the week after your period, it’s launch time baby!

4. Batch your energy

You’ll notice I talk a lot about energy, because it’s so important when it comes to following your flow while still creating income. Anything I do, I batch -- content, coaching calls, Zoom meeting, design, etc. You name it, I batch it. At first, it may seem like a lot of work, but I promise you that it creates more time-freedom and space for you overall.

I like to think of it in terms of a basketball game. The first quarter is on Monday night, the second quarter is on Tuesday night and so on. That’s a lot of preparing yourself mentally, and a lot of ‘performing’ so to speak, all split up. But when you have one game on Friday night you go in with the mindset to conquer those 4 quarters and come out a champ, right? The same applies for your day-to-day life. If you look at my Monday’s, they are calls and meetings from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Of course I take a lunch break, but outside of that, I focus on SUPPORTING my clients. Monday’s for me are all about supporting clients and doing anything that involves pouring into others so that throughout the rest of the week I have space to do other things.

5. Stop trying to constantly learn

I know this sounds silly, as you’re reading this post and learning from me, but hear me out. I didn’t say stop learning, I just said to stop trying to constantly learn. So many of my clients tell me they listen to Podcasts every single chance they get or they read the latest business building book as soon as it hits the shelves. Learning and growing is KEY to growth financially, but you have to give yourself space to absorb all that information. One of THE pivotal things I personally did was start reading at least one FICTION book a month. Not a book reader? Binge some Netflix!! You will NOT fail as an entrepreneur! You are NOT being lazy! You are taking care of you. Try it out for a month, and I promise you’ll notice that you will feel a little lighter and show up differently.

And there you have it, 5 ways to follow the flow in your business and STILL create consistent income. Slowing down to follow the flow and truly listening to yourself and your body will give you the space that you need for your magic to truly shine through.
